River Action fosters the environmental, cultural, and economic vitality of the Mississippi River and it's riverfront in the Quad Cities region. Founded in 1985 and located in Davenport, Iowa, River Action has worked for over 30 years to make the Mississippi River more cleaner, more vibrant, and more accessible for the people of the Quad Cities.

We also host events on and along the river every summer to encourage river recreation in the community. Ride the River is our Father's Day family bicycle ride which has been an annual event for over 35 years, and encompasses our communities 60 miles of riverfront trails. We also host Floatzilla in August, the largest paddling event on the Mississippi River. People come from all over the United States to paddle the Mississippi River and attempt a World Record for largest flotilla of kayaks and canoes. In September we hold the Taming of the Slough adventure triathlon where racers paddle, mountain bike, and run individually or in three-person relay teams. It is also important to River Action that those who have mobility issues can still enjoy our riverfront, so we hold Golf Cart Tours for seniors where they can take a ride along the riverfront and hear from city officials about new developments over the past year.

In 2019 in the wake of the record setting flood, River Action started the Quad Cities Flood Resiliency Alliance. We are cooperating with local municipalities to decrease flood insurance rates in our region by increasing our flood preparedness by following the Community Rating System National Flood Insurance Program.

Each year we fund environmental projects in the region through our Rock Island and Scott County Conservation Consortiums. Over $100,000 in projects are completed in Rock Island and Scott Counties every year with consortium funding.

River Action continues to work for the Mississippi River and the communities who call it home.
