Wabakimi Wilderness Park is the world's largest paddling area: five times the size of BWCA or Quetico! Trip planner for Wabakimi Canoeing & Fishing Outfitters is Bruce Hyer . Bruce played the key role in the creation of Wabakimi ... as well as many of its routes and portages. Ask him about his detailed Wabakimi trip maps. Wabakimi is home to hundreds of the remaining threatened and elusive woodland caribou; over half of our clients see one of these spectacular animals. Wabakimi can be tricky to access. The options include road based shuttles, or flying in or out by floatplane, or accessing by "bush train". Bruce specializes in helping you to select a route that matches your budget, needs and wants, time frame, and experience. Then you get superb maps and trip information on the route that you pick. A great little overview planning map is available at the show. Free ideas on your map with "highlighter" from Bruce right at the show! In addition to canoe trip outfitting, Wabakimi Outfitters has a 4 Star main drive-to lodge for pre or post-trip comfy bed, and hearty dinner or breakfast buffets. We have 4 fly-in remote outposts inside the park for fishing or families. They can be combined with a canoe trip, and many of our clients fly-in or out to begin their canoe trip. (Also, 4 more outposts accessed by floatplane or rail are just on the edge of the park). Is Wabakimi a few more hours away than BWCA or Quetico? Yes. (but with only an 11 hour drive from Madison, it is actually closer than Woodland Caribou Park). Is it slightly more expensive than BWCA or Quetico? Yes, especially if you fly-in by floatplane (the majority of our clients now fly-in for better remoteness and more options... and better chances to see caribou instead of humans). Bruce and Wabakimi Outfitters have been helping match up ideas, routes, and support for decades with people who appreciate and respect true wilderness and precious species and ecosystems. Hope to chat with you at the show!
