Is Cedar Falls, Iowa on your paddling list? It should be! Cedar Falls is the perfect city to enjoy a mix of outdoor adventures on land or water in an urban setting. We are known for our natural beauty and outdoor activities with miles and miles of designated water trails, thousands of acres of lakes and ponds, along with the new Gateway River Park to complete anyone's appetite for adventure.

The Gateway River Park is nestled amidst trails and a vibrant downtown providing new opportunities for fishing, tubing, paddling and more with multiple access points, fishing jetties, and aquatic life pools. The Cedar River is also a designated Iowa Water Trail with 47 miles featuring dramatically contrasting settings with the wildness of forested bottomlands with diverse plants, wildlife, and bird species giving way to historic urban environments.

For wilderness canoeing, the Cedar Valley Paddlers Trail offers a 10-mile loop water and portage trail connecting various lakes across George Wyth State Park, Hartman Reserve Nature Center, and the Cedar River, with options for both shorter loops and longer excursions. Convenient access points with nearby parking enhance the paddling experience.

Do you want to add to your fun, bring your bikes! We have over 130 miles of hard-surfaced trails and a vast network of single tracks including a dedicated cyclocross course and pump track. The Cedar Valley Trails is a network of loops connecting area communities showcasing urban, prairie, and lake side scenery, and is also part of two national trails, the American Discovery Trail and the Great American Rail-Trail.

When the kayaking and riding are done, explore a myriad of locally owned breweries, bars, restaurants, and boutiques located in the Historic Downtown District along the Cedar River and trails.

We are a short three hour drive from Madison to Paddle, Pedal & Play in Cedar Falls, Iowa!
