Traditional lifeguard training is designed for primarily for pools, waterparks, beaches. It is not intended for wilderness settings. From rescue equipment to emergency action plans to access to emergency medical service the backcountry requires a different type of training. We train wilderness trip leaders how to prevent drowning in the backcountry and if there is an emergency how to respond. Topics include: establishing a backcountry waterfront, swimming in current, water depth, rescues greater than 50 yards from shore, cliff jumping, head neck and back injuries in the wilderness, rescue scenarios, relevant policies for backcountry swimming, risk management for remote aquatic activities and more. bookmark
