He received a degree in Outdoor Education from Northland College. He participated in an 88 day NOLS expedition in  the southwest. He has a true passion for canoeing and experience with many trips over the years to Quetico, Boundary Waters, Sylvania Wilderness, and many rivers and smaller lake systems. Sylvania Wilderness is within 30 minutes of his backdoor, and he spends a large portion of his time exploring every corner.
